Strategy and Vision

Reflecting that of the University, the vision of the Institute for Ageing and Health is:

To become, by 2015, a world-leading organisation for the delivery of multidisciplinary translational research in the fields of healthy ageing and age-related diseases, to make a strong contribution to education and training in these fields and improve quality of life for older people.

We will achieve this by fostering an environment of interdisciplinary interaction and co-operation, through the provision of co-located environments, shared support infrastructure for world-class research, and opportunities and facilities for high quality teaching and public engagement with research.

Within this environment we will:

  • Support research by identifying and facilitating new opportunities for multidisciplinary activity and for interaction and partnership with commerce and industry, government and other academic institutions.
  • Identify and seek to satisfy the need for additional research strengths and generate and administer seed funding to support research and translation initiatives, including, where appropriate, the commercialisation of research.
  • Improve the sustainability of the field by training and developing researchers, leaders and support staff at all levels to meet the needs of associated research groups.
  • Encourage and facilitate the commercialisation of research through the provision of facilities, training, information and business engagement support.
  • Work with local and regional organisations to improve services and generate economic growth through better understanding of ageing and its role as a driver for change.

Through this strategy, the Institute seeks to address a mission which covers the 4 key areas of Research, Teaching, Business and Public Engagement
