Professor Edwardson was founding Director of the Institute for Ageing and Health (1995-2006) and also Director of the MRC Neurochemical Pathology Unit.
Since retirement, he continues to work part-time for the IAH in the field of public engagement. He was founding Chair of the North East Regional Forum on Ageing (2005-09), which addresses the challenge of how we can be a flourishing, sustainable region with a population age-structure much older than that experienced by previous generations.
Professor Edwardson is an Honorary Vice President of the Alzheimer's Society with long-standing research interests in this and related disorders.
