Bsc Hons in Neuroscience from Edinburgh University.
PhD entitled ‘The molecular Basis of Neurodegeneration – the role of mitochondrial DNA mutations’.
My primary research interest is investigating mitochondrial and protein degradation within neurons with ageing and in neurodegenerative disease. The main focus of my research is studying the turnover of proteins within the neurons of the substantia nigra and the role of autophagy in the accumulation of mitochondrial DNA mutations within these cells.
Correlating alpha synuclein positive Lewy bodies and mitochondrial dysfunction.
Up regulation of autophagy and mitochondrial DNA mutations.
Targeting of mitochondrial to autophagosomes through membrane potential changes.
