IAH Student Retreat

Students are a very important part of our Institute and their ideas and opinions are highly valued.

To demonstrate this, since 2011 the IAH have organised a retreat weekend to which all postgraduate students in the Institute are invited. The main aim of the retreat is for everyone to join in and get to know their fellow students in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. To facilitate this there are organised outdoor activities and team building events, including gorge scrambling, abseiling, canoeing and fell walking, plus a quiz, games and generally lots of fun.

There is also a short session where we ask the participants to give us their suggestions about how we can improve the learning and research environment for postgraduate students. In the past this session has produced some useful and thought provoking ideas which is given serious consideration and those that are practicable are implemented wherever possible.

The event is always a huge success and the feedback from those who attended has been very positive.  The one resounding message from the retreat has been, “Please organise more of these events!”
