Background

Previously: 

  • Background in biological sciences and statistics.  Twenty years in pharmaceutical R&D: Including work for Astra Zeneca, Eli Lilly, GSK, Roche and Sanofi-Aventis.  Data Management and Statistics; Project Planning; R&D Management. Followed by three years in the NHS working in Clinical Data Management and then Clinical Research Coordination.

  • Statistical modelling in a number of fields; formerly Editor of the journal Pharmaceutical Statistics; contributor to popular magazines such as New Scientist and the Economist

Currently:

  • Project Manager - Translational Research Portfolio.  NIHR Newcastle Biomedical Research Centre and Institute of Cellular Medicine, Newcastle University.
  • Statistical reviewer for the journals Pharmaceutical Statistics, Statistics in Medicine, Nature Reviews Drug Discovery, Arthritis Care & Research, Trials, Journal of Computer-Aided Molecular Design. NIHR statistical reviewer. Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society.
  • Founder TEDxNewcastleUniversity. Co-curator TEDxNewcastle 2014 www.tedxnewcastle.com



 


Research

 Current research interests include:  

  • Stochastic models of drug development
  • Models of clinical decision making
  • Clinical phenotyping
  • R&D management strategies
  • Scientific decision making.


     

    Teaching

     

    Currently no formal teaching duties.  Statistical consulting support to postgraduate researchers.

    Previously: 

    • Mathematical modelling, experimental design and statistics at Newcastle University. Supervision of undergraduate projects.
    • Postgraduate training and continuing professional development for scientists and statisticians in the pharmaceutical industry.
