I lead the clinical aspects of research undertaken by the urology group linked to my work as consultant urologist at Freeman Hospital. I am keen to hear from anybody seeking scientific collaboration with our group or needing advice on a career in academic urology.
Roles and Responsibilities
Honorary Consultant Urologist, Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
My research interests are focused on improving treatment of common benign urological problems such as urinary tract infection, prostatic enlargement, bladder dysfunction and urethral strictures.
I lead the academic clinical training programmes for urology encouraging clinicians at all stages of their careers to be involved in research and practice development within the specialty
Current collaborative research projects concern investigation of the role of anti-microbial peptides in innate host defence against uro-genital infection, development of novel devices to measure urinary tract function, designing decision support material for urological conditions and evidence synthesis to guide treatment.
