Research Interests

Diabetic nephropathy, hypertension in diabetes, clinical diabetes.

Renal structural analysis using light and electron microscopy and stereological morphometry. Renal functional estimates including GFR (isotopic and non-isotopic methods) and urinary protein excretion. Experienced investigator in clinical trials of anti-hypertensive therapy in diabetic nephropathy. National co-ordinator of Irbesartan Diabetic Nephropathy Trial (a large multi-centre study in 1650 Type 2 diabetic patients with nephropathy comparing Irbesartan v Amlodopine v placebo).
