Joint Disease
Our clinical and translational research programmes cover many aspects of athritis, bone and joint disease. An excellent infrastructure for this is provided by close collaboration between rheumatologists and orthopaedic surgeons, and large cohorts of well-characterised patients across the spectrum of musculoskeletal disease. The Wilson Horne Immunotherapy Centre provides an optimal setting for the study of novel immunomodulators and allied experimental medicine.
Translational clinical studies involving patients include the development of musculoskeletal imaging (ultrasound, MRI and PET) as a research and diagnostic tool in musculoskeletal disease, the detection of Biomarkers of early rheumatoid arthritis and clinical trials in rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. We also have a major link with UK clinical research strategy in paediatric rheumatology (through the arc/MCRN clinical studies group) and continue to participate in public dissemination of clinical research by developing educational packages for doctors and patients.
