Scanning

patient in Magnetic Resonace scannerWe use Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), a medical imaging technique, in clinical research. We develop new ways of using MRI scanners to study the body, and use MRI to solve important problems of human health.

We work with other researchers from Newcastle University, and from other universities and research centres, to study problems such as diabetes, dementia, liver disease, cancer and brain injury. We perform our research at the Newcastle Magnetic Resonance Centre, a custom-built facility on Newcastle University’s Campus for Ageing and Vitality, which houses our MRI scanners, offices and laboratories.

Our work is supported principally by grants from UK Research Councils and from charities. Further details of our research and staff can be found on the Newcastle Magnetic Resonance Centre website.
