Helen Leeder:
MSc in Medical Genetics (2005) – now a Research Assistant
My background is in biology and chemistry, having studied these at undergraduate
level. I choose the MSc in Medical Genetics as I have a long standing interest
in genetics and the aspects covered in this course sounded interesting. After
successfully completing the course I got a job in Leicester in clinical microbiology
R&D helping to introduce more molecular based tests to the department.
I enjoyed the majority of the MSc course, however as always
there is a down side - it's very hard work. As I have been part of the first
year there were been some teething problems but I think after feedback sessions
these aspects of the course have been subsequently improved.
I always found the lecturers approachable and happy to help with any questions
raised during or outside of lectures.
I was involved in the university squash club and played in local league matches for the university’s second team. I think Newcastle is a good place to be a student but then I'm biased it's my home town!
