MSc in Medical Genetics (2006) – now a PhD student at the Institute of Genetic Medicine, Newcastle University
When I first considered a master degree after finishing my undergraduate molecular genetics degree in the United States, I wanted to move into medical research field. But my background was purely scientifically based therefore I had to find a well designed course that incorporate both medical and scientific aspects of genetics.
The MSc in medical genetics offered at the Institute of human genetics was the right choice for me. It provided me with the medical background I needed to successfully start up my medical research career. The course incorporated a wide range of modules covering various areas of basic genetics, clinical genetics, cytogenetics, gene therapy and bioinformatics. These modules were taught by a world class scientists, doctors and professors.
The course also had a research element which provided me with
the sufficient research training. During my research period I interacted with
many clinicians, scientists and researchers that really helped me learning and
developing various research abilities. The state of art facilities of the Institute
of human genetics at university of Newcastle made it one of the best genetics
research centers in the world. The friendly positive environment at the IGM
encouraged me to stay and move into PhD research.
Having a well designed program offered by a world class institute in a friendly
city makes me recommend the MSc in medical genetics program with enthusiasm.
