Tania Papoutsi:
MSc in Medical Genetics (2006) – now studying for a PhD at the Institute of Genetic Medicine, Newcastle University
My background is on Biology but my fascination for Genetics
throughout my undergraduate studies was steadily increasing. This is why I decided
to do a master on Genetics and especially Medical Genetics, a rapidly developing
field of science. I chose Newcastle because of its high rating University in
this research area and its good reputation as a lively and vibrant city. Reality
did not disappoint me. The Insitute of Human Genetics in the International Centre
for Life is an excellent and modern research institution, with well trained
staff and high-quality facilities. As part of the MSc course we had the opportunity
to participate in a research project of our choice and this is when my interest
was captured by developmental genetics. I have found this research area highly
fascinating and exciting and therefore a PhD on this field was the next step
to take.
