Zebrafish Facility

The 800 tank purpose built Schwartz zebrafish aquarium was commissioned in 2004 and houses a wide range of zebrafish mutants and green fluorescent protein-expressing transgenic fish under the care of a specialist technician. A new procedures room has been added with twin incubators, micro-injection stations and imaging facilities. The groups using the facility are investigating cardiac development and heart regeneration, kidney disease, neuromuscular disease and neural crest cell biology. Expertise in a wide variety of techniques such as transgenesis, mRNA and morpholino injections, histology and gene and protein expression is available.
Research groups interested in undertaking zebrafish research will be supported in experimental design and acquisition of preliminary data. Investigators wishing to use the facilities should contact Bill Chaudhry; tel: (0191) 241 8681.
