Living – and thriving – in very old age

Carol Jagger, Professor of the Epidemiology of Ageing, and Thomas Scharf, Professor of Social Gerontology, recently contributed to The Observer's article on "Britons at 90: healthier, wiser, more independent – but it helps if you’re rich”. Carol sought to challenge overly pessimistic representations of people in advanced old age with data from the Newcastle 85+ Study, while Tom focused on the fact that reaching 90 should no longer be regarded as something exceptional.
