I am a behavioural scientist and my research programme aims to improve public health by promoting the use of evidence-based interventions to reduce behavioural risk. A key strand of my research is the development, evaluation and implementation of screening and brief alcohol interventions in health and social care settings. I am a founding member of FUSE - a UKCRC centre of excellence in translational public health research.

Pragmatic trials of complex interventions
I am the co-Principle investigator of the National Alcohol Screening and Brief Intervention Pilots (SIPS). This involves three pragmatic cluster randomised controlled trials across primary care, accident & emergency departments and the criminal justice system. I am also involved in a range of studies focused on alcohol use in older people, during pregnancy and in young people.
Recently awarded (with Colleagues in London, Kent, Swansea and Glamorgan) an NIHR Programme grant to investigate alcohol use disorders in young adolescents attending emergency departments.
