Prof. Martin Eccles
The William Leech Professor of Primary Care Research and Professor of Clinical Effectiveness

I run the Effective Professional Practice and Organisation of Care research programme aiming to improve patient outcomes through receiving appropriate healthcare. The programme covers four areas: [1] systematic reviewing of the currently available knowledge; [2] hypothesis generating studies, usually documenting current patterns of care; [3] hypothesis testing studies, usually RCTs of interventions to promote the uptake of research evidence into practice; [4] an exploration of theory relevant to this area.
I work as a general practitioner two afternoons a week, am co-Editor-in Chief of Implementation Science and am an editor for the Cochrane Collaboration EPOC review group.
