I have always been interested in science. After completing Biotechnology degree at the University of New South Wales in Australia, I worked as a research assistant in the Department of Haematology at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney. It was here, working on a Multiple Myeloma trial, that my career in clinical research began. After travelling around the world and deciding to stay put in Newcastle upon Tyne, I picked up where I left off and began working as a Data Manager at the Clinical Research Facility, RVI Hospital. This was soon followed by three years as a Clinical Trial Coordinator at the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trials Research Centre, Northern Centre for Cancer Care, Freeman Hospital, where I was able to work in oncology clinical research again. Finally, I have now moved onto the role of Trial Manager at the Newcastle Clinical Trials Unit at the Institute of Health and Society. I feel that I now have a deeper understanding of how things work within clinical research and clinical trials as I have experience of multiple roles, from lab-based through to trial management. Too keep me extra busy (& to gain more experience of course!) I am currently completing my final year of a MSc in Clinical Research, where I have developed and am now running my own research study.
