Maternal pre-pregnancy obesity is associated with a range of adverse pregnancy outcomes and may also have long term implications for the health of the child.

This programme of research is developing and evaluating a diet and physical activity intervention for obese pregnant women, aimed at improving glucose metabolism and hence maternal and infant health outcomes.

The programme is led by Professor Lucilla Poston (King’s College London) with the Newcastle team leading on physical activity for the programme.
