Matthew Stewart

Finance Co-ordinator


Matthew is responsible for sound financial monitoring, implementation of effective process and procedure, developing and delivering financial training and ensuring sustained levels of professional support from the finance team, to the Institute Management Team, Institute Academics, Principal Investigators, Students and other Professional Support colleagues.

He works closely with Management Accounts and Contract Financial Management to develop better systems of reporting in line with University policy and to ensure academic colleagues are provided with clear and accurate information. He also works with Institute Management to ensure effective cost recovery and Institute sustainability.

His previous role in Contract Financial Management has allowed him a strong understanding of Research Finance and how separate University finance and contract teams interlink, in turn enabling him to offer the best advice possible to colleagues.

Matthew works closely with Ian, the Accountancy Assistant based in IHS. Ian is also responsible for the Institute finances, but, as a Management Accountant, he has slightly different responsibilities. He also works with Sonia, the finance assistant in IHS who has responsibility for processing fees, expenses, P2P items and an array of other tasks.
