Staff Profile

Dr Rute Velosa Vieira

Medical Statistician

Background

Introduction

I joined the Institute of Health & Society in June 2015 as a Medical Statistician and I currently hold a honorary contract with Public Health England where I collaborate with the National Congenital Anomaly and Rare Disease Registration Service (NCARDRS).

My areas of interest are mainly related with the development of statistical methodologies to analyse rare diseases and personalised medicine related data.

I am currently interested in developing and using modern statistical methods to develop prognostic indices for mortality in children born with congenital anomalies and rare diseases. I am also interested in the development of statistical methodologies for the analysis of n-of-1 (single-patient) data.

Previously I worked as a statistical advisor for the Newcastle-upon-Tyne Hospitals (NuTH), IHS research groups and Newcastle Clinical Trials Unit.
