Institute for Nanoscale Science and Technology: INSAT

Analytical scientist operating a multimode Atomic Force Microscope. It is estimated that the global nanotechnology market will reach US$1 trillion during the next ten years with around 2 million skilled people (IEEE Nanotechnology Magazine, June 2008).

INSAT is connecting researchers from traditionally separate disciplines to help respond to this global demand for new products and skilled personnel. We span from fundamental nanoscience, through mechanical and medical applications to ethical issues.

The strategic vision of INSAT is to promote and support:

  • world class research in the domain of nano science and technology at Newcastle
  • multidisciplinary research including applied nano science and technology for societal and economic benefit
  • commercialisation of our research and engagement with the community
