Qualifications

Each application received by Newcastle University is assessed on its individual merits and in accordance with the specific entrance requirements of each University programme of study. The information on entrance requirements for international students presented below is for guidance purposes only and does not represent a guarantee that a place will be offered.

Foundation Programmes

If you have completed secondary school education in your own country the Foundation programme provides you with academic preparation, English language and study skills in order to successfully prepare you for direct entry to the first year of an undergraduate course at university.

Undergraduate Programmes (Bachelor Degrees)

Holders of UK GCE A-Levels (normally with passes in a minimum of 3 subjects) will be considered for direct admission to Bachelor degree courses. Grades required can be found in the University's Undergraduate Prospectus

Holders of the International Baccalaureate Diploma with 28 points or more will be considered for direct admission to Bachelor degree courses.

Students who have completed a recognised foundation programme with INTO or through another recognised institution will be considered for direct entry to Newcastle University undergraduate programmes.

Postgraduate Study (Masters Degrees and Research programmes)

Holders of a Bachelor degree (honours) or a Bachelor degree in a professional subject who studied at a recognised university will be considered for direct admission to postgraduate taught programmes.

Students holding a Masters degree will be considered for entry to Masters, PhD and other research programmes at Newcastle University.

Students wishing to complete a research programme may require relevant research experience. Please visit our online prospectus to confirm entrance requirements specific to your area of interest.

Because of the variation in standards of education internationally students should include full information regarding their educational qualifications when they apply for admission to the University.

Applicants whose first language is not English require a recognised English Language qualification. As a guideline we usually require IELTS score 6.5; TOEFL IBT 90; PTE Academic 62. Other English language qualifications are also considered at the point of application.
