European Union (EU) students

Many EU students come to Newcastle for their whole degree, but it is possible to study here for just one or two semesters. Some EU students who come for one semester decide to stay with us to complete their undergraduate degree or return for their postgraduate studies.

For a European student, a British degree gives:

  • worldwide recognition
  • an assurance of quality
  • a chance to study and become fluent in English.

European and international employers value the benefits that you gain by having a British degree.

If you are from the EU and studying for one complete academic year, we guarantee accommodation if you accept an offer of a place by June of your year of entry. If you are studying for a shorter time period, our Accommodation Service will still assist you with providing suitable accommodation. Living in student accommodation is a great way to make friends and experience all of the best that the city of Newcastle has to offer.

Studying for a whole degree with us

If you wish to take your whole undergraduate degree with us, then you should apply through UCAS. You may find it helpful to check the web pages of the British Council Office. Please remember that undergraduate EU students (non British Nationals) are classed as Home/EU students and pay the same tuition fees as British Nationals who reside within the UK. You can check our fee information for further details.

Studying for one or two semesters with us

Newcastle University participates in the Socrates-Erasmus exchange programme and has student mobility agreements. If you are interested in the Erasmus exchange programme, contact the International Office at your home university to check if they have an Erasmus agreement with Newcastle University.

In addition, we welcome applications from EU students who want to study just one or two semesters with us on a fee-paying basis. We can offer a range of standard programmes, which satisfy the most common course choices, but also offer you individual programmes tailored to suit your needs.
