About me

Name: Daniel
Course: Pipeline Engineering MSc
Study mode: Full time
Where I’m from: Mexico

Choosing Newcastle

"Newcastle is the only university in the world that offers this programme (MSc Pipeline Engineering), so it’s very special."

Studying at Newcastle

"I like the way that teaching on my course is delivered – you have to be very critical, do a lot of research and it’s up to you to advance. It’s an exciting adventure to study here. I’ve been recommending it since my first week here.

"The class size on my course is very small so we interact a lot with our lecturer, the workload is suited to what I’m doing – it’s like they know the exact amount of time we need. I’ve joined the mature students and parents societies. I also use GoPlay, which allows you to try different sports, which has given me the chance to do soccer and ping pong."

Postgraduate community

"We have lots of common rooms – I feel part of an amazing postgraduate community. People are friendly and greet you and I am comfortable as part of the community."

Funding my studies

"I saw scholarship information on the Newcastle University website. I had Newcastle University in mind anyway and the funding information was easy to find. I have a government scholarship from Mexico and I’ve funded the rest of my fees and maintenance with a mix of loans, savings, and the Newcastle University scholarship."

Career aspirations

"I want to pursue a PhD after returning to Mexico to work for six months (which is a condition of my scholarship). I’d like to do my PhD at Newcastle University if I can. My studies at Newcastle are exactly what I need to achieve my engineering goals."

Accommodation

"I live in University postgraduate accommodation, Leazes Terrace. It was easy to sort out and there were lots of options to choose from."

Living in Newcastle

"There are a lot of things to do and everything is close by within walking distance. There are a few friends planning to move here because of my recommendation. Newcastle is also a cheap city to live in."

Remembering Newcastle

"The high quality of education is my highlight so far."
