At Newcastle University, we offer four different options for study abroad programmes. They are:

Undergraduate Students

Study Abroad for an Academic Semester/Year

You take modules towards your home degree in a broad variety of degree programmes as a full time student, live in student accommodation with home and international students and are fully integrated into the University’s academic schools and student community.

We offer study abroad programmes in five subject areas:

Programme Dates:

  • Semester 1: September – January*
  • Semester 2: January – June

*For students studying at Newcastle University in semester one only and whose following semester at home starts in early January, we will make arrangements for students to be assessed so they can start their next semester on time.

Application deadline:

  • Semester 1: June 1
  • Semester 2: October 31

Study Abroad for a Semester with Integrated, Extended (into the Summer) Research

We are pleased to announce the launch of a new study abroad programme that combines a study abroad semester (or a year) with undergraduate research, both during the semester and extended into the summer following.

English Language Plus Academic Semester (INTO Newcastle University)

Masters Students

Study Abroad for an Academic Semester

You take modules towards your home degree in a broad variety of degree programmes as a full time student, live in student accommodation with undergraduate home and international students and are fully integrated into the University’s academic schools and student community. Since integrating Masters students into existing academic structures at Newcastle University involves more time and consideration, all interested applicants (or their Study Abroad Offices) are asked to contact the International Office prior to applying to determine

  • Pre-requisites
  • Module availability
  • Recommended modules

Masters students are required to take all modules in their academic school.

Possible set-ups could look like (depending on individual schools):

  • Students only being able to take 3000 level undergraduate modules
  • Students being able to take half undergraduate and half postgraduate modules
  • Students being able to take all postgraduate modules
  • Students being able to take a module on dissertation writing
  • Students being able to come in semester one (September through January) only
  • Students enrolling in block-taught modules that may alter the length of the semester
