IoN contribution to the Royal Instituiton Christmas Lectures

Dr Peter Simmons and Dr Claire Rind travelled to London on Monday 12th December to take part in one of three lectures for the the Royal Instituition Christmas Lectures.

In front of a TV crew, school children were shown a demonstration involving one of the locusts from the Institute locust colony. The children were shown how it is possible to record impulses from a visual neuron that responds to other objects moving towards the locust. The locust was unharmed by the procedure and is now safely back in the locust colony.

The three lectures this year 'Meet your Brain' are delivered by psychologist Bruce Hood. The first lecture will be broadcast on Tuesday 27th December at 8pm on BBC4.
