photograph IoN hosts first North East Epilepsy Research Meeting

The inaugural meeting of the North East Epilepsy research forum was held on the 18th September at Redworth Hall Hotel, Co. Durham. With over 60 attendees, the day consisted of a mixture of talks from both basic scientists and clinicians working in the field of epilepsy in the North East region. In addition, invited seminars were given by Professor Richard Miles (Paris), Professor Philip Patsalos (London) and Professor Roger Traub (New York) in topics that ranged from the pharmacology of anti-epileptic drugs, human epileptic in vitro brain slice experiments and biologically realistic computational models of epileptic brain activity. Organised by Dr Mark Cunningham, Dr Mark Baker (Institute of Neuroscience) and Dr Paul McKee (Department of Neurology, James Cook Hospital, Middlesbrough) the event was supported by the Institute of Neuroscience and UCB Pharma.
