Introduction/Areas of work:
My research addresses the role of hunger in body image perception. It will investigate the role of hunger and nutrition in determining the body size that is regarded as most attractive and ideal by both women and men. These size preferences seem to be influenced by food availability. But is it hunger that drives this change in ideals? Or is it the belief that this hunger will, or will not, be satisfied? My studies will tease apart the psychological factors (the beliefs about food availability) from the physiological factors (actual hunger levels) which determine body size preferences.
