I am a master graduate of the Medical Neurosciences M.Sc course at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany, achieving a Grade B in 2007. I have also completed the B.Sc (Hons) degree in Biomedical Science at the University of Durham, achieving a 2-1 grade in 2005. I started my phd in October 2007. My research project, in brief, is to reveal the association of the distinct gene expression pattern in the developing human motor cortex with the stages of development of the motor cortex and the corticospinal tract, thereby further understand the underlying mechanisms of cortical regionalisation during development. Since the gene expression pattern and the genes expressed in human motor cortex seem to be different from those discovered in rodents, it is of importance to utilize the embryonic and fetal human brain for this research. Such unique and precious resources are being collected by the MRC/Wellcome Trust Human Developmental Biology Resource which is held at Institute of Human Genetics, Newcastle University and Institute of Child Health, London, making Newcastle one of the few centres in the world where such a research project could be undertaken.
