Introduction and area of work:

The central aim of this project is to determine whether the over-estimation of body size by observers with body shape concerns can be explained by the differences in their pattern of gaze when judging bodies compared to that of non-eating disordered controls. This over-estimation is a key element in the drive to lose weight in young women and the development of Anorexia, and if it is based on altered eye-movements then a clinical intervention based on training patients to view bodies will be an important treatment tool.
