The 2009/10 bursary was awarded to Matthew Collison, and proved to be a great help in a number of ways:

“Being awarded the Institute of Neuroscience MRes bursary was an honor and a great help towards financially supporting my year. This has relieved a lot of pressure from my tight budget and allowed me to fully apply myself to my studies and exploit the fantastic opportunities associated with this degree.

The MRes neuroscience degree is a great introduction to top level research in neuroscience. This course opens many opportunities for students, initially allowing them to gain an underlying knowledge of research in neuroscience and clinical applications before completing an extended in depth dissertation project in their specified area.

This has allowed me to pursue and expand on my undergraduate research project working within a world leading collaboration. Furthermore this degree has formed the groundings for further PhD study and hopefully a successful career in neuroscience based at Newcastle.

As a self funded student, without this bursary I would have had to undertake part time work to fund this year, instead I have been able to dedicate my time to extra research studies and fulfilling the potential this degree offers. I am extremely grateful to the institute and scheme donors for the award and the financial support.”
