Vision and Cognition
We are interested in high quality research which can directly influence and improve the care of patients coming to the ophthalmology department with a wide range of eye diseases and vision disorders. Our research group includes ophthalmologists, psychiatrists, neurologists and psychologists in order to provide a fresh and holistic approach to vision research. Current research topics include: investigating the impact of memory problems on cataract surgery; exploring how we make decisions about eye treatment for people with advanced dementia; the influence of Parkinson’s disease on the visual system; the relationship between glaucoma and dementia; the occurrence of visual hallucinations in eye disease; how we measure memory in those with visual difficulties. Stemming from this research, we have set up a multi-disciplinary clinic where we see patients with complex visual and perceptual problems like visual hallucinations.
