My interests are in the pathophysiology and treatment of affective disorders. In particular I am interested in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and the serotonergic system. I utilise a number of EEG techniques including cognitive event related potential recordings to study the neuropsychological impairment in psychiatric illness. In addition I have developed a putative method for examing serotonergic function in man that has been utilised to study depressed patients and the effects of cortisol on serontonergic function in healthy subjects.
I have previously been supported through a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Fellowship and an MRC Clinician Scientist Fellowship. I have had grants from the Nuffield Foundation, Newcastle University Hospital Special Trustess and Industry.
