I have researched interdisciplinary issues since moving to the University of York from industry. My last job in industry had been managing the team involved in designing and building a development environment for the Inmos transputer. At York I became interested in how to model interactive systems so that designers might think more carefully and predictively about these systems in terms of their use and potential human errors that might arise. I have worked with psychologists in York and more widely within an EU framework to develop more psychologically relevant models. I have also worked on research projects that were funded directly by industry. I am looking forward to new challenges in Newcastle and the opportunity to work with a more diverse range of disciplines. At the same time I aim to carry my research agenda forward into mobile and ubiquitous systems.
