Headlines by Email

The email list – iss-headlines – is open for anyone to join. Members are emailed directly with selected information from the Message of the Day (see below). This includes:

  • Scheduled or other breaks in service availability.
  • Announcement of changes to ISS facilities and services.
  • Announcement of local events of direct interest to computer users.

Will it fill my mailbox?

No: traffic is less than 1 message per week.

All messages are brief (referring to Web pages where elaboration is needed) and have a descriptive Subject line.

How do I join?

The list is controlled by ISS's SYMPA list management system. Send a two-line message to sympa@ncl.ac.uk consisting of:

subscribe ISS-Headlines firstname lastname
stop

(where firstname and lastname are your own first and last names.)

Please leave the Subject: field blank.

Can I - or do I - get this information elsewhere?

Yes: the information appears as headlines in the "Message of the Day" at login on all University Common Desktop PCs (Cluster PCs and staff Common Desktop PCs), as well as on the ISS home page.

Any comments?
