Retirement of the Cyrus email server

All users of the Cyrus email system (including RWS users) will be moved to the Exchange email service by September 2011.

By default, most University e-mail is provided by the Exchange/Outlook Web Access service. Previously, a Cyrus email account could be requested if a user had specific needs which were not met by Exchange.

In recent years, new features added to Exchange mean that all users can now be catered for via the one email system, helping us to maximise efficiency and minimise cost.

We are aiming to have all existing Cyrus email users migrated to the Exchange system by September 2011. This will be done in stages and users will be notified by email when their email account is due to move.

Please be assured that no email will be lost during the switchover. We will also transfer all email from your old account into your new account on your migration date. Access to your old account will be available for a couple of weeks after the transfer just in case anything is left behind.

Users who wish to make a head start on moving their email account to Exchange can do so by sending a request to helpline@ncl.ac.uk. Otherwise, ISS will be contacting existing Cyrus users over the next few weeks to assist in moving their accounts.

More information is available on the ISS Website, if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact the ISS Service Desk on 5999 or email helpline@ncl.ac.uk.
