Central Administration shared folders unavailable 19-22 March 2010

Central administration staff will be unable to access some shared folders from 18:00 Fri 19th March - 07:00 Mon 22nd March 2010.

Date/Time: Friday 19th March 2010 18:00 - Monday 22nd March 2010 07:00

Essential system checks and urgent repairs are required on the Central Administration shared folders (these are the mapped drives you use which are at locations marked "Turret..." or "campus\dept...").

Due to the large amounts of data involved, this maintenance will take all weekend and the following file shares will be unavailable from 18:00 Friday 19th March - 07:00 Monday 22nd March 2010.

\\campus\dept\cadmin
\\campus\dept\cadmin01
\\campus\dept\cadmin02
\\campus\dept\cadmin03
\\campus\dept\cadmin04
\\campus\dept\centraladmin
\\campus\dept\safety
\\campus\dept\miu

Users are requested to CLOSES ALL FILES on the shared folders by 6PM ON FRIDAY, when the servers will be taken off-line. All errors should be fixed by Monday morning but there may be some permissions which need to be re-enabled; please contact the Helpdesk if you have problems with this.

If you urgently need to access files over the weekend, please copy any files you need to your H: drive before 6pm Friday, then any updates can be copied back on Monday.

We apologise for the inconvenience and short notice of this essential maintenance.

NOTE: If you have had problems with this over the last couple of days and need to open or save files, as a workaround you can use ShadowCopy to recover corrupt files:

To do this go into Windows Explorer, browse to the folder where you are having problems and right-click the file or folder. Select Properties and click the Previous Versions tab. You can go back to the last folder which was backed up before the disc check took place, which was 16:00 on 16/3/2010. If you are unable to save a file, you should be able to save it to a different location and copy it back later when the servers are fixed.
