Exchange 2010 Upgrade - Changes to Apple Mail (in native Exchange mode)

Other documents on using Outlook Exchange are here

Overview

Over the coming months, ISS will be upgrading the email of staff and postgraduate research students from Exchange 2007, to the latest version, Exchange 2010. Benefits include an improved version of Outlook Web Access (OWA) with new features, faster access and increased mailbox quotas.

The first task will be to upgrade the servers that handle email client access (such as Apple Mail). All users access Exchange through theses servers. Once that has been done, we can begin to move the mailboxes of staff and postgraduate research students over to our new servers; a process which may take approximately 6 months. All mailbox moves will be scheduled to happen overnight to cause minimum disruption.

Unfortunately, we are unable to migrate all email clients automatically. Some email clients will require two small changes to their settings; once when we switch over to the new Exchange 2010 server and again when your mailbox is moved.

Instructions

In order to work with the new infrastructure, Apple Mail will need to be re-configured:

Server name changes:

Select Mail, Preferences from the menu

Highlight the Exchange account

Change both the internal and external server names to: legacy.ncl.ac.uk

An example is shown below:

Check the Advanced tab to ensure that the internal and external server paths are set to:

EWS/Exchange.asmx

Click the red close button and remember to click Save when prompted.

You may need to restart the Mail application.

Further instructions will be emailed to you before your mailbox is moved, to revert the URL back to owa.ncl.ac.uk

Note:  iCal and Address Book also have separate instances of server URLs that will need changed to legacy.ncl.ac.uk.
