ISS are responsible for the purchasing and maintenance of centrally managed computing clusters, along with the central print service. We also provide advice to people purchasing new equipment for deployment on campus.
Staff (or researchers) at any grade, and in any office should discuss arrangements with their School's Computing Officer (or equivalent) if they require new equipment. Please check the list of Computing Officers (and similar staff), with whom ISS communicates on a routine basis.
ISS is often asked by staff and students for recommendations on buying systems for private use. The market is too dynamic for ISS to be able to offer such advice. It is probably enough to say that all the suppliers listed in the Framework Agreements may provide educational discount schemes for private purchase by members of the University.
There are framework agreements for supply of PC and Apple Macintosh systems reached as the result of a formal tendering procedure, as required by the Public Supply Contracts Regulations.
See the University's Purchasing Office website for details.
