Getting started with ISS services

Every member of the University is provided with a Login Name, email account, and filestore (computer disk space to store your work).

Your Login Name gives access to most ISS computing services and the University "Campus Managed Desktop" PC Windows service, which is provided to most staff via the PC on their desk, and to students via the PC Cluster service (well over a thousand PCs distributed in a number of computer clusters around campus). Your filestore allocation appears in the Campus Managed Desktop as "My Documents", Drive H, and is referred to as your Home Folder.

For most users, email is provided on the Microsoft Exchange service, accessed via 'full' Outlook Exchange for staff, and via Outlook Web Access (OWA) for students.

Services are not restricted to the Windows Campus Managed Desktop. For example staff and students can opt to use Unix/Linux computer services; staff can opt to have their email delivered via an IMAP service instead of Exchange (usually with approval from their Head of School).
