The University expects all students to act responsibly, showing due consideration to other students, staff and visitors. Acts of misconduct are investigated in accordance with the Student Disciplinary Procedures (see http://www.ncl.ac.uk/student-progress/documents/DisciplinaryProc.pdf). All disciplinary cases are considered on their merits, but where students are found guilty of misconduct, fines (and other charges) may be imposed.
Fines and charges may vary, depending on specific circumstances for each case.
Where fines and charges are levied, the following is an indication of the normal rate of that Heads of School / Service may wish to apply. These are examples only, and the list is dated 2003-4. If there is a repeat offence, Heads of School/Service will consider a more severe sanction.
N.B. All other offences are dealt with on a discretionary basis.
Fines may also be imposed for offences other than those listed above.
All cost-recovery charges will be used to cover repairs or replacements. All money raised from fines is credited to the University Hardship Fund – a fund for assistance for students in difficulties, administered by the Student Wellbeing Service.
