Use of facilities by ex members of staff
The position with respect to the use of ISS facilities and services by ex members of staff (whether retired or
resigned) is as follows.
Emeritus Professors, and other holders of honorary positions, are members of
the University and thus are entitled to receive the services of ISS.
All other ex-staff are not entitled to use ISS facilities, nor
benefit from University software deals, nor use networking facilities, with
these two exceptions:
-
Ex-staff who get written support from the current head of their old department
because of their continued academic activity may continue to use ISS facilities,
only. However they cannot benefit from software agreements, nor use JANET, since
they are no longer formally members of the University.
-
Any individual may apply for a personal sponsored JANET connection that
allows the continued use of JANET. This would only be granted if the use
was in relationship with academic activity, and there is a charge. In view
of the proliferation of ISPs, this option is unlikely
to be attractive except in so far as it might allow continuity of address.
