Conditions of Use of the Web Service

  • Like all other University computing facilities, the Web service is subject to the University's regulations. The conditions of use and regulations are summarised in the pink ISS leaflet Rules for Use of Computing Facilities, which is available in all cluster rooms and at ISS Reception.
  • All Web servers on this campus are subject to the Conditions of Use of UKERNA, who provide the external network services.
  • All Web pages published on campus must comply with the Copyright, Designs & Patents Act 1988, and with the Data Protection Act 1998.

  • The University Lion and Shield are registered trademarks and may only be used in applications approved by the University, such as official documents. They may not be used in any other context, for example personal web pages, without the express consent of the University.
  • The Web teams are available to offer advice on web publishing and the University regulations governing this. Since restructuring, these rules are being revised, so advice given may vary depending on the individual circumstances.

Advertising

These are guidelines for all web pages published within the University. They apply to all servers on the campus network; whether run by ISS or within departments. If in doubt, please contact webmaster@ncl.ac.uk

  • Commercial advertising is not permitted. Where a Web site is sponsored, it is permissible to acknowledge this and to provide a link to the sponsor's Web site.
  • The use of banner adverts (i.e. material provided directly from a third party site) for any purpose contravenes the Joint Academic Network (JANET) rules of use and is not permitted.
  • Any links to commercial companies must not imply that the University endorses a particular product or service if this is not the case.
  • No personal remuneration of any kind may be derived from resources provided by the University.
