Additional Filestore Services

  • Software Storage Service - ISS Provides a high availability repository for packaged software, electronic installation media, scripts and other components for deployment and reference on University Computers.
  • Scratch Storage Service - ISS Provides a network based 'Scratch' storage service for uses such as temporary storage for disk images, editing large media files, software package testing etc.
  • Temp Storage Service - ISS Provides a network based Temporary or 'Temp' storage service for uses such as temporary storage for drivers and updates.

  1. Don't give full permissions unless you really need to!
  2. Consider turning OFF offline files on Desktop Machines
  3. Only ever assign group permissions even if the group has only one member!

  • WinDirStat - You can use WinDirStat to give you a graphical representation of folder usage.
  • Robocopy (built-in to Windows Vista\7 and Server 2008) is designed for reliable mirroring of directories or directory trees. It has features to ensure all NTFS attributes and properties are copied, and includes additional restart code for network connections subject to disruption.
