Connecting to the VPN

This page describes how to connect to the VPN service here at Newcastle on Mac OS X v10.5 "Leopard" or v10.6 "Snow Leopard".

  1. Open the "Network" system preferences.
  2. Select the Plus button and choose VPN as the Interface and PPTP as the VPN Type from the resultant window. Give it a name e.g. VPN(PPTP) and hit the Create button.
  3. Fill in the fields as shown in the following figure, using your Windows login ID in place of "a1234567".
    Note that for connecting to the Internal VPN you should enter ivpn.ncl.ac.uk whereas for the External VPN (i.e. when off-campus) you should use evpn.ncl.ac.uk for the Server address.VPN Network Pref Picture
  4. Select the Advanced... button for the new interface and enable the "Send all traffic over VPN connection" option as shown below.Set the
