Configuring network interface on Windows Vista

By default Vista is configured to Obtain an IP address automatically. If you have used a static IP address in the past this page will show you how to switch back to using dynamic configuration.

  • From the Start menu open the Control Panel
  • Select Network and Sharing Center.
  • In the side panel select Manage network connections.

Your network card should be shown as Local Area Connection.

  • Right-click on Local Area Connection and select Properties.

[ UAC will probably be ask you for permission to continue ]

  • Under the Networking tab
  • Check Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
  • Click the Properties button.
  • Under the General tab
  • Check Obtain an IP address automatically
  • Check Obtain DNS server address automatically
  • Click OK to close Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties
  • Click OK to close Local Area Connection Properties
