Configuring network interface on Windows XP

Configuring your Windows XP machine to use the network is fairly simple compared to older versions of Windows.

  • From the Start menu open the Control Panel
  • Select Network and Internet Connections.
  • Select Network Connections.

Your network card should be shown as Local Area Connection.

  • Right-click on Local Area Connection and select Properties.
  • Under the General tab
  • Check Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
  • Click the Properties button.
  • Under the General tab
  • Check Obtain an IP address automatically
  • Check Obtain DNS server address automatically
  • Click OK to close Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties
  • Click OK to close Local Area Connection Properties
