Modules implemented

Between April 1999 and August 2003, Newcastle University implemented the following SAP R/3 modules:

  • MM – Materials Management (purchase order processing)
  • SD – Sales and Distribution
  • CO – Consolidated accounting
  • FI – General ledger for accounting purposes
  • PS – Research project system
  • FM – Funds Management
  • HR – Human Resources (organisational structure, staff management, training and event management, managers desk top)
  • Payroll – Payment of individuals
  • PM - Plant Maintenance
  • SLCM - Student Lifecycle Management (previously known as Campus Management)

In October 2005, the University implemented the following to improve the postgraduate admissions process:

  • Postgraduate admissions portal
  • Workflow for postgraduate applications
  • CRM - Customer Relationship Management
  • BW - Business Warehouse

Implementation aims

  1. To provide consistent and timely information to:
    • support the day to day demands of teaching, research and academic services
    • guide internal decision making at all levels
    • meet external reporting requirements
    • bind together a decentralised institution responsive to new opportunities in the external environment
  2. To underpin a process of continuous improvement in the provision of cost effective and professional administrative services to support front line activities.
