Using the File Transfer Utility

Using the File Transfer Utility

The File Transfer Utility is a way of using RAS to transfer files between your University filestore and your home PC.

The utility is accessed from the Accessories menu by clicking on the icon File Transfer Utility icon

Once opened you will be presented with Windows Explorer like this:

File Transfer Utility Main Screen

This will show your University H drive - labelled as Documents (H:).
Additionally you will also be shown the drives which have been mapped through from your local PC - in the example above the A, C, D and E drives. These will all be labelled as Disk Type (Letter: on COMPUTER), for example Local Disk (C: on JOHNS-PC).

If you have also directly mapped any other Drives from within RAS, these will be shown as well.

When the file transfer utility has launched you use it in the same way you would Windows Explorer, you can drag files between your drive (which can be expanded on the left) or copy files and then paste files into the relevant drive.

Remember your local drive on your PC will normally be labelled Local Disk (C: on COMPUTER).
