How to join the ISS-headlines email list
iss-headlines is a local email list which is open for anyone to join.

What is it for?

Publishing information that we consider to be important to some or all of our customers. This includes

  • Scheduled or other breaks in service or network availability.
  • Announcement of changes to ISS facilities and services.
  • Announcement of local events of direct interest to computer users.
Will it fill my mailbox?

No. Current traffic is less than 1 message per week. All messages are brief (referring to Web pages where further elaboration is needed).

How do I join?

Send a message to sympa@ncl.ac.uk consisting of these two lines (do not type anything in the Subject line):

subscribe ISS-Headlines firstname lastname
stop

(where firstname and lastname are your own first and last names). ("Sympa" is the mail list management software.)

Can I - or do I - get this information elsewhere?

Yes - iss-headlines is provided as a means of having all announcements 'delivered to your door', but most of the information is duplicated:

Headlines appear on the "Message of the Day" at login on all University Common Desktop PCs (Cluster PCs and most staff PCs) and on the ISS home page.

All messages to iss-headlines are archived in the Sympa mail archives and in the News section of the website.

We intend to launch RSS feeds of ISS news soon.
